Commitment

Taking Responsibility

As a pharmaceutical company, we take a holistic view of responsibility: medical, social, and environmental.

Health Education and Community Engagement

Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH has been supporting medical organizations and initiatives for many years—both financially and through in-kind donations. One example is Arzneimittelfonds Hessen e.V., which supports projects in the fields of health, social services, sports, education, and science. Our involvement focuses particularly on children and adolescents and on supporting their families.

For years, we have been supporting organizations such as ROTE NASEN Deutschland e. V. and kinderherzen Fördergemeinschaft Deutsche Kinderherzzentren e.V. These initiatives reflect the values of the company’s founder and the Köhler family: long-term commitment to the health of children and adolescents, particularly in the fields of cardiac surgery and transplantation medicine.

In addition, we regularly donate medicines to international partners and healthcare facilities. For instance, we have donated CUSTODIOL® to Fiji and El Salvador in recent years.

Connected to the Bergstraße Region

As a family-owned business, we have deep ties to the Bergstraße region. For many years, we have supported cultural initiatives, social organizations, and volunteer efforts—especially at the regional level. The following organizations are among those we have supported:

  • Vogel der Nacht Festival
  • Collegium Musicum Bergstraße
  • Bensheim Reading Festival (Bensheim City Culture)
  • “Gertrud Eysoldt Ring” Theater Award
  • Playground Project through the Rotary Club of Bensheim
  • Behindertenhilfe Bergstraße gGmbH (Assistance for the Disabled)
  • Friends of the Alsbach/Bergstraße Volunteer Fire Department
  • The Bensheim Food Bank

Sustainable Business Practices and Energy Efficiency

Increasing regulatory requirements are making sustainable business practices a key corporate priority. Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH has therefore set itself the goal of systematically reducing its natural gas and electricity consumption as part of its ISO 50001 energy management system.

Particularly as a manufacturing company, we see significant potential here to improve energy efficiency and reduce our environmental footprint.

Since 2024, we have been systematically collecting, evaluating, and documenting sustainability metrics. Our reporting is based on the VSME Standard, a voluntary sustainability standard recommended by the EU for companies of our size (2025 recommendation). This is where we get ideas for our specific measures, such as for reducing paper and shipping materials.
