Franz J. Köhler Award
On March 14, 1989, the German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (DGTHG) decided to establish the Franz J. Köhler Award.
The award honors outstanding scientific achievements in the field of organ protection—with a particular focus on the heart—in both research and clinical application. It is awarded annually by a committee of the DGTHG and is endowed with €7,500 by Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH. The award honors the company’s founder, who played a key role in shaping the development of organ-protective concepts.
Franz Köhler Inflammation Award
The Franz Köhler Inflammation Award, sponsored by Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH, has been presented annually since 2010 during the annual conference of the German Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI). With a prize of €5,000, it honors outstanding contributions to research on the pathophysiology, prevention, and treatment of inflammation in perioperative medicine.

Young Researchers’ Awards
Promoting young scientists is one of our key commitments. Since 2017, Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH has supported the Young Forum of the German Society for Perfusiology and Technical Medicine (DGPTM) and the DGTHG with a Young Researchers’ Award (€500) that recognizes innovative research and therapeutic approaches.
In addition, we sponsor the DGTHG Conference Award (€1,000) to promote scientific exchange and the work of early-career researchers in cardiovascular surgery.
Hanse Care Award
Since 2024, Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH has sponsored the Hanse Care Award, which is presented by the Scientific Association for the Promotion of Clinically Applied Research in Intensive Care Medicine (Wissenschaftlicher Verein zur Förderung der klinisch angewandten Forschung in der Intensivmedizin e. V.). The award recognizes outstanding clinical practice and nursing research in Intensive Care and Anesthesia Nursing and is presented annually during the Symposium on Intensive Care Medicine + Intensive Care in Bremen.

Our Köhler Campus platform offers regular live and on-demand continuing education courses on the topics of intensive care, emergency medicine, transplant medicine, perfusion, and cardiac surgery. Most of the online seminars are CME-certified and based on a product-neutral approach.
